Giraffe Tongues are Black to Avoid Sunburn
Compact and self-contained, this piece keeps its square stance while offering a small interior that invites a look and keeps a measured distance. A single diagonal sets the upper field in motion, a quiet tilt within an otherwise right-angled frame.
The palette leans warm. Iron reds, oranges, yellowed light, with a bright teal laid along the diagonal that the eye finds first. The steel is left as rust rather than the flat black of later work, so the metal and the glass share a felt warmth. In close, reflections layer and the interior reads as both shelter and vacancy. As the first work in the series, made intuitively, it begins the thread of empty rooms that are both welcoming and lonely.
